Not legal advice

The information on DivorceTalk is provided for general educational and informational purposes only. It does not constitute legal advice and is not a substitute for the advice of a licensed California attorney. Reading this website does not create an attorney-client relationship between you and DivorceTalk, its authors, contributors, or any reviewing attorney.

California family law is fact-specific and highly dependent on individual circumstances. Outcomes in your case may differ substantially from any general principle described on this site. Before making decisions that will affect your finances, your property, or your family, you should consult with a California-licensed family law attorney about your specific situation.

No attorney-client relationship

Sending information to DivorceTalk by mail or any other means does not create an attorney-client relationship. Information you send may not be confidential. Do not send confidential or sensitive information through this site or in unsolicited correspondence.

Accuracy and updates

We make a careful effort to keep DivorceTalk accurate and current. California family law changes — through legislation, appellate decisions, and rule changes — and we update articles as we become aware of changes. We do not guarantee that any particular article reflects the most recent state of the law, especially for very recent changes. The "last reviewed" date on each article gives you the most recent date the content was checked.

We are not responsible for the content of external sites linked from DivorceTalk. Inclusion of a link does not imply endorsement of every aspect of that site or service.

Privacy

DivorceTalk does not require accounts to read articles. We do not collect personal information from readers beyond what is described here.

Analytics. We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand which articles readers find useful. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (such as _ga and _ga_*) on your browser to count unique visitors and track which pages they visit. Aggregated information about site usage may be shared with Google in accordance with Google's privacy policies. We do not sell this information to anyone. If you would prefer not to be tracked, you can install the official Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, use a browser with built-in tracker blocking, or enable a privacy extension such as uBlock Origin.

Newsletter. If you sign up for our newsletter, we collect your email address for the sole purpose of sending you that newsletter. We do not share, sell, or rent email addresses. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.

Postal correspondence. Letters sent to our mailing address are read and may be retained for record-keeping. We do not add postal correspondents to any marketing list.

Affiliate disclosure

Some links on the Resources page may be affiliate links — meaning we receive a small commission if you sign up for the linked service. We disclose this clearly. We do not include any service on the Resources page solely because it pays a commission. Inclusion is based on whether we believe the service is genuinely useful to readers; the commission is incidental. If we ever stop believing in a service, we remove it regardless of the commercial relationship.
